On this page, you'll find examples of papers and short stories I've written (for college AND for fun!). Some are pure fiction, some are in-depth analyses, and some are creative nonfiction pieces based on my own life experiences. Enjoy!

This essay was created during a course I took as an elective: The Short Story. It was written for a "close reading" assignment, in which I discuss a specific interpretation of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" and relate it to the field of epigenetics. In order to finish up the last few hours of my English minor, I took an "Essay and Article Writing Techniques" course. This class involved extensive reading/writing of creative non-fiction pieces and gave me the chance to practice blending research with creativity--a style that I relish using. The attached essay is a short research paper that focuses on debunking negative misconceptions about video games. Click on the above link to read more!

One of the best courses I took for my liberal studies requirement at Florida State University was "Writing about Ghost Stories and Urban Legends." The class allowed me to delve deep into fascinating supernatural lore, encompassing both research and fiction-focused writing. The attached essay was created for a "Write Your Own Urban Legend" assignment. It blends well-known FSU ghost stories with the Slenderman legend to create a creepy fiction piece. When working on the research component of my "Writing about Ghost Stories and Urban Legends" class, I was tasked with focusing on a particular story or urban legend. I chose "Alice in Wonderland"--one of my favorite classics. This research paper analyzes the moral value of several versions of this tale. It is largely opinion-based but incorporates information from the original pieces and from other scholarly articles. Click on the above link to read more!

This analytical paper was written for my "Ancient Mythology East and West" course. The original assignment involved choosing an ancient legend discussed in the class and comparing it to a modern-day Western story. This could be a movie, a television series, a video game, a book--virtually any story-telling medium. In my case, I decided to compare The Epic of Gilgamesh to Tim Burton's stop-motion classic (and my favorite movie of all time), The Nightmare Before Christmas. Click on the above link to read more!
